Beekeepers' Demonstrators Group
Based in Luwero District, this group were earning an income from catching problem swarms inhabiting homes and public buildings, and passing these swarms on to beekeepers. They were carrying out this work without the benefit of protective clothing and without any formal training, but it was generating a reasonable income as they would charge for both the collection and delivery of the swarms.
Capture box for swarm.
Help from HSLA
With the help of HSLA, they now have their own hives which they can colonise through their existing swarm-catching activities, and can generate additional income through honey production. They are also providing swarms to other HSLA projects in the vicinity.
Wild swarm of bees.
Current activities
They continue to capture wild swarms, but are now aiming at producing nuclear colonies from their framed hives to expand their own apiary and to sell on to other projects.
