The Rt Hon The Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

Baroness Lynda Chalker is the founder and chairman of Africa Matters Limited, an independent commercial consultancy supporting private sector development in Africa. She was a Member of Parliament for Wallasey in the UK from February 1974 to April 1992. During this period, she held various positions including Minister of State at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office with responsibility for Africa and Commonwealth Affairs from January 1986 until May 1997 and Minister for Overseas Development from July 1989 until May 1997. In April 1992 she became a Life Peer.

Lynda Chalker holds a number of non-executive directorships. She is the first and so far only woman to be appointed as non-executive Director of Unilever Plc and NV, for whom she first worked as a statistician at the beginning of her career. In addition, Lynda Chalker also plays a key role as the Co-ordinator of the President of Nigeria's Honorary International Investor Council, is a member of Kenya's Economic & Social Council and of the Ugandan and Tanzanian Investment Round Tables.

Lynda Chalker is a trustee and patron of a number of foundations and civil society organisations, including Chairman of the Board of Management of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine since 1998; Trustee of the Nelson Mandela Legacy Trust; Honorary Vice President of the British Red Cross Society; Vice President of WaterAid; Vice President of RedR Engineers for Disaster Relief; Vice President of Practical Action (formerly ITDG).

Sir Colin Chandler, FCMA, FRAeS

Sir Colin Chandler

Sir Colin is currently Pro-Chancellor of Cranfield University, and Non-Executive Chairman of easyJet plc, TI Automotive, and Autmotive Technik Holdings.

Previously, he has been Deputy Chairman of Smiths Group, Chief Exectuive and Chairman of Racal Electronics, Director of Guardian Royal Exchange, Head of UK Government's Defence Export Services Organisation, and variously Managing Director, Chief Executive and Chairman of Vickers plc.

He was knighted in 1988 for Services to Export.

Dr Brian Hanson CBE

Lawyer and part-time lecturer in charity law and canon law.

Secretary to the Panel of Reference of the Anglican Communion dealing with appeals to the Archbishop of Canterbury from parishes throughout the world in dispute with their diocesan bishop.

Chairman, House of Laity, Chichester Diocesan Synod. Long-standing interest in charity work which concentrates on providing work opportunities rather than aid.Trustee of HSLA from its foundation.

Sir Martin Laing CBE MA FRICS

Sir Martin Laing

Sir Martin Laing was educated at St Lawrence College, Ramsgate and Emmanuel College, Cambridge, where he read Estate Management. Former Chairman of John Laing plc and British Overseas Trade Board, currently Non Executive Director of Eskmuir Properties Ltd, an Adviser to RP&C International Ltd and President of the Institute of Export.

He played a leading role within the UK's construction industry for many years and has a keen interest in sustainable development and the environment. He was until recently a member of the Board of the Marine Stewardship Council and is Trustee Emeritus of WWF-UK.

Sir Charles Masefield

Sir Charles Masefield

Sir Charles has been a leading figure in European industry for 25 years. As Senior Vice -Commercial for Airbus Industrie in Toulouse, France, he was responsible for all Airbus Marketing, Contracts and Sales Finance.

He has been Vice Chairman of GEC and subsequently Vice Chairman and then President of BAE SYSTEMS. He is the former European Chairman of Transatlantic Business Development (TABD) and is Chairman of Helvetica Wealth Management Partners and also Chairman of the medical research company, Microsulis.

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Fellow of the Commonwealth Partnership for Technology Management. In 2000 he became the first non-American to receive the US James Doolittle Award for services to Aerospace.

Sir Charles was Knighted by the Queen in 1997 for Services to British Exports.

Richard Unwin

Richard Unwin is Chairman of several companies in Asia and the Middle East. He is a Founder member of CPTM Commonwealth Partnership for Technology Management and Life Patron of the NSPCC. He is an investor in science and technology and supports young scientists in commercialisation of their new innovations.

He works with University Research departments. He is a specialist in renewable energy. For the last 15 years his core business has been solar cell technology and renewable energy. Richard Unwin is involved with other philanthropic work. He is a Freeman of the City of London. He has two sons and two daughters, is a keen tennis player and a member of the MCC. He is also a compulsive international traveller.

The Right Reverend Lord Hope

The Right Reverend Lord Hope

Dr David Hope began his ordained ministry as Curate of St John, Tuebrook, Liverpool in 1965, became Chaplain, Church of the Resurrection in Bucharest from 1967 to 1968, and returned to Tuebrook until 1970. He was Vicar of St Andrew's, Warrington, from 1970 to 1974; Principal of St Stephen's House, Oxford from 1974 to 1982; and Vicar of All Saints' Margaret Street, London, from 1982 to 1985. From 1980 to 1987 he was also Warden of the Community of St Mary the Virgin, Wantage, and Master of the Guardians of the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham from 1982 to 1993. He was made Bishop of Wakefield in 1985 and became Bishop of London in 1991. He was appointed Archbishop of York in 1995.

The Church of England's second most senior clergyman resigned from the role in August 2004 to fulfil his long-held wish to return to parish life by taking up the post of Vicar of St Margaret's Church, Ilkley. In 2005 he was granted a life peerage.

Patrick Ayebiziwe: Field Officer, Uganda

Patrick Ayebiziwe

Patrick is our field officer, based in Fort Portal, and his main responsibility is to provide support and extension services to our projects in Western Uganda. He is an experienced beekeeper and provides hands-on practical guidance in the field, and plays a key role in assessing the viability of new project applications.
